Phénomènes (Phenomena)

Catalog of the exhibition Phenomena by Marina Gadonneix.
Marina Gadoneix's work is halfway between reality and fiction. It accounts for the porosity between document and fiction, simulation and illusion, where the aesthetic is at the crossroads of landscape and scientific photography. The discovery of an image of the scientist Kristan Birkeland, reproducing, at the beginning of the 20th century, an aurora borealis in his laboratory is the starting point of the Phenomena project. It led the artist to question the modes of fabrication of phenomena, both scientific and enigmatic, within the framework of laboratories, as well as to question their mechanics. The laboratory is envisaged here as a theater of the world where universal history and the experience of thought would be replayed simultaneously. A place of exploration and representation of things, where some of the unpredictable parameters that govern the world (tornado, black hole, earthquake...) seem to be able to be manipulated, archived, reproduced, conceptualized but also pushed to their limits.
