Yann RABANIER

Portrait : the field of possibilities
Audience Toute personne souhaitant améliorer sa pratique
This course focuses on the encounter with the photographed person. That meeting is primordial. Its success depends on photographers’ ability to lead the model to the image they expect. The portraitist’s idea at the outset and the goal he sets beforehand partly determine a session’s success, allowing him to bring the other into his vision, leaving as little room for doubt as possible.

Anticipating technical and logistical aspects allows the photographer to stay focused on the individual on the other side of the lens. To succeed, Yann Rabanier suggests working on three things: light, framing and the model’s direction. In the first sessions, participants will focus on each of those aspects relatively independently, choosing preferences, experimenting with new distances and imagining fresh approaches before combining them in personal projects.

They will work with Mr. Rabanier on giving concrete expression to an idea and choosing a method until meeting the other. Alternating between reflecting, shooting and editing, they will assemble a portrait series revealing not just the people photographed, but also the photographer’s preferences and personality.
